Frinton Summer Theatre is delighted to announce that acclaimed stage and screen actor Adjoa Andoh has become Patron of the theatre, marking an exciting new chapter for the much-loved producing theatre as it approaches its 92nd year.

Best known for her work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre, alongside standout roles in Bridgerton and Doctor Who, Adjoa brings a wealth of experience, insight and passion for the arts. Her appointment comes at a time of growth and renewed ambition for the theatre as it continues to evolve artistically and broaden its reach.

The theatre has recently expanded its programme and is committed to widening participation, increasing accessibility, and continuing to diversify those who make its work — across casting, creative teams, backstage talent and the voices represented on stage.

Her appointment coincides with Frinton Summer Theatre’s most ambitious season to date, featuring eight productions across nine weeks — an extraordinary repertory achievement and a bold step forward for the company.

The 2026 season spans Shakespearean tragedy, comedy, musical theatre and contemporary drama, including a world premiere. Highlights include Macbeth — the first Shakespeare production in the theatre’s 90-plus-year history — alongside Sweeney Todd, The Unfriend, Half a Sixpence and more. Each production is delivered by professional cast and crew, maintaining the theatre’s long-standing commitment to producing work of a standard audiences would expect from the West End.

The appointment of Adjoa Andoh as Patron reflects Frinton Summer Theatre’s ongoing commitment to artistic excellence, cultural enrichment, and ensuring that theatre remains accessible, inclusive and relevant to all.

Adjoa Andoh said:

“What makes Frinton Summer Theatre so special is the sense of community, generosity and shared love of storytelling. There’s something truly unique about the energy here — the way audiences and artists come together to create something vibrant, welcoming and alive. I’m absolutely delighted to support the theatre as it continues to grow and reach new audiences.”

Clive Brill, Artistic Director of Frinton Summer Theatre, said:

“It gives me enormous pleasure to welcome Adjoa as Patron of Frinton Summer Theatre, and to thank her most warmly for agreeing to lend her support to the charity in this way. Her involvement is both significant and deeply valued at a time when we are building on our momentum and shaping an ambitious future. With our biggest season yet ahead of us, this is an incredibly exciting moment for the theatre. We are proud to continue delivering productions of a professional standard that audiences would expect from the West End, right here on the Essex coast, while also widening the range of work we present and continuing to diversify those who make it.”

Elizabeth O’Connell, Chair of Trustees, added:

“We are absolutely delighted that Adjoa has agreed to become Patron of Frinton Summer Theatre. As we prepare for our biggest season yet, her support comes at a perfect moment. Our commitment is to produce theatre of the highest professional quality, and her association will help us continue to grow, reach new audiences and bring outstanding cultural experiences to the Essex coast, including opening the doors to young people through initiatives such as our Macbeth schools programme.”
